Concrete Calculator: Bags and Cubic Yards
Estimate bagged concrete or ready-mix cubic yards for slabs, circles, or post holes. Pick a shape in the controls below, then download a printable materials list.
Slab and bag quantity worksheet
| Item | Area | Size | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concrete | 36.7 cu ft | 62 bags | |
| Ready-mix equivalent | 1.4 cu yd | 1.5 cubic yards |
Assumptions
- Rectangle slab: 10 × 10 ft × 4 in
- Waste factor: 10%
- Volume: 33.33 cu ft
- Volume with waste: 36.67 cu ft (1.36 cu yd)
- Bag yield: 0.6 cu ft per bag (check bag label)
- Above about 1 cubic yard, ready-mix delivery is often more practical than bags. Compare options locally.
Supplies checklist
- Gravel or crushed stone base
- Wire mesh or rebar (slabs)
- Form boards and stakes
- Concrete mixer or mixing tub
- Float and edger

Planning a flat concrete pour
Walk the pad outline with a tape measure before you buy mix. Mark control joints on the sketch so the printable list matches how you will saw the slab after the bleed water disappears.
Bagged mix makes sense for small pads and patch jobs. When the math crosses roughly one cubic yard, compare a short-load truck against stacking pallets. The assumptions line on your PDF is a shopping aid, not a contractor bid.
Check slope for rainwater runoff if the slab sits against a foundation wall. A gentle fall away from the house keeps finish work simpler than grinding high spots later.
About slab and bag estimates
Start with a rectangular slab example: 10 by 10 feet at 4 inches thick with 10% waste. Switch to a circle or post-hole layout with the Shape control when your pour is not a flat pad.
Bag counts use the yield printed on your bag label. Ready-mix cubic yards appear beside bags so you can compare pickup versus a short-load truck. Above about one cubic yard, many homeowners choose delivery instead of stacking bags.
