Dog Food Calculator and Printable Feeding Chart

Dry food labels list calories per cup, but the right daily amount depends on your dog's weight, age, and activity. This worked example uses a 50-pound neutered adult at 400 kcal per cup, the documented default you should replace with your bag's figure.

The feeding chart lists daily portions by weight and life stage, including a weight loss column. Use the controls below to enter weight, life stage, meals per day, and calories per cup. Download a PDF: the feeding chart is page 1, then this dog's portion, then a 30-day log. Your pet's name never appears in a copied link.

Body condition matters more than the scale alone. If ribs are hard to feel, reduce portions gradually with your vet. If you can see ribs on a healthy breed, ask before increasing.

Senior Dog Feeding Calculator

Senior dogs often need fewer calories as activity drops, even when the scale stays flat. Less-active seniors use a 1.4 factor in this model, lower than a typical neutered adult at 1.6.

This worked example is a 70-pound senior on two meals. Controls on this page adjust weight, calories per cup, and paper size. The assumptions block prints every factor and density figure used.

Arthritis, dental disease, and kidney issues change what food is appropriate, this tool estimates quantity only. Your vet's prescription diet instructions override any calculator.

Dog Weight Loss Feeding Calculator

Weight-loss plans for dogs usually target a deficit through a 1.0 life-stage factor on resting energy, less than maintenance but not starvation. This layout uses a 55-pound dog on that path with two meals.

Controls on this page let you compare maintenance versus weight-loss factors and see how cups change when calories per cup changes. Portions always round down to the measuring increment.

Dogs can lose weight faster than cats without the same liver risk, but sudden drops still warrant a vet visit. Pair lower food with measured treats and exercise your vet approves.
