PNG can store an alpha channel, but a flat JPG has no transparency to recover. The result is an opaque PNG unless you edit alpha elsewhere.

File size

Expect a larger file than the JPG source because PNG stores the decoded bitmap without JPEG's block compression. Plan extra disk space for batch exports.
