Guitar Chords for Beginners Chart, Letter

Introductory group classes usually teach open chords before any barre across all six strings. Eight diagrams on this sheet cover Em, G, C, D, Am, A, Dm, and E with finger numbers on each dot so a new player can match the printout to the fretboard during the first month of lessons.

Worked example: loop Em and G in slow 4/4. On Em, fret only the second fret of the A string and the third frets of the D and high E strings; leave the low E and B strings ringing open. Switch to G by adding the third fret on the low E string and the second fret on the A string while the high E stays open. Ask the student to name which strings never get fretted in that loop.

Print one copy per chair at full size with browser scaling off. When the class moves past open shapes, pick the essential chord set in the controls below and download a new PDF instead of marking over these beginner grids.

Store spare copies in the lesson binder next to a tuner. If a left-handed student mirrors the room, remind them the string order on the diagram still runs low E on the left; they flip the guitar, not the paper.
